What is Ben Kei OTK?

Ben Kei OTK is a one-turn-kill Goat Format deck which revolves Armed Samurai - Ben Kei’s effect by combining it with a bunch of equip spells to attack for lethal damage. It plays Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu and Reinforcement of the Army to search its combo pieces or utility cards like Snatch Steal or Exiled Force. Big Bang Shot is the most important equip card in the deck, because it allows Armed Samurai - Ben Kei (or Asura Priest) to OTK through a field of Scapegoat tokens. Ben Kei OTK is slower than the average combo deck in Goat Format, so it will typically play some stall cards to buy time to accumulate the key combo pieces for the OTK.

How Does Ben Kei OTK Work?

Ben Kei OTK's strategy is similar to Cyber-Stein OTK, but the advantage of Ben Kei OTK is the lack of a 5000 lifepoint requirement and how searchable your key cards are. Reinforcement of the Army gives you access to Ben Kei, while Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu lets you search out your equip spells. Sangan can grab either Armed Samurai - Ben Kei or Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu.

While searching out your Mage Power for that big attack boost might be just what you need, Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu  can also search out cards like Premature Burial, Big Bang Shot or Snatch Steal, giving you just the tool you may need for certain scenarios.

Ben Kei OTK looks to stall the game with cards like Scapegoat, Gravity Bind, and Level Limit Area B, until it's ready to clear the field and attack multiple times with Armed Samurai - Ben Kei for game. Since you will be playing three copies of Giant Trunade along with Heavy Storm you can stall your opponent with cards like Gravity Bind and Level Limit Area B, then remove from the field once you have properly built your hand up for game. Scapegoat also allows you to defend your life points but can also work in combination with United We Stand to give your Armed Samurai - Ben Kei a huge attack boost.

Giant Trunade also has useful interactions with your equip spells. If you activate Giant Trunade while Premature Burial is on the field, Premature Burial will return to your hand and the monster will remain on the field. If you equip Big Bang Attack to an opponent's monster and then activate Giant Trunade, their monster will be banished and Big Bang Shot will return to your hand! Another interesting trick with Big Bang Shot is that you can equip it your opponents monster and they attack your defense position monster, your opponent will take the piercing damage rather than you.

Why Ben Kei OTK Is Viable

Big Bang Shot is actually a major reason that Ben Kei OTK is a viable deck. Scapegoat is still a very popular card in the format; without a way to deal piercing damage Scapegoat could stop Ben Kei right in its tracks. Big Bang Shot has the advantage of being searchable unlike other field-clearing cards such as Lightning Vortex or Tribe Infecting Virus that other OTK decks use. Scapegoat is the only chainable card to Giant Trunade or Heavy Storm that most decks play, so having a built in searchable answer to your opponent's only defensive option is a major advantage to Ben Kei OTK. With so many searchable cards in your toolbox, the deck can easily build up hands of lethal damage. Like many combo decks in Goat Format, Ben Kei is well-equipped (no pun intended) to fight against Goat Control. However, unlike those other combo decks, very few sidedecks have much to deal with Ben Kei OTK.
