Survey: $900 Per Year Tournament Proposal

We always have to make sure that we're doing right by the Goat Format community, which is why we open up our big ideas for feedback before they're implemented. Please read our proposal and give us your thoughts.

During our last survey, the main feedback that we got was that players wanted a free and no-strings-attached way to play in Goat Format tournaments that awarded money to the top finisher. After that, we ran a free $20 tournament as an experiment to see how players would like it. The feedback that we got was quite positive. In fact, there were no complaints about how the tournament was run.

In order to be able to grow the Goat Format community while not going broke ourselves, we'd like to alternate each month between a free tournament, followed by one only available to donors via Patreon. There will, however, be alternate ways to qualify for the big Patreon tournament. Read on for more details and the survey.

Proposed Goat Format Tournaments

GoatFormat.com Open Championship

• Anyone who has joined our Discord server will be able to enter this tournament
• When: 2nd Saturday of every other month, 1 PM EST (starting on May 11th)
• 1st place: $50 and entry into Patreon Championship
• 2nd place: Entry into Patreon Championship
• Double elimination “live” rounds (approximately 8 hours in total duration)

GoatFormat.com Patreon Championship

• Players must be a Patreon donor, a content creator for GoatFormat.com, or qualify via the Open Championship in order to enter
• When: 1st of every other month (starting June 1)
• 1st place: $100
• Double elimination “non-live” rounds, with 5 days to complete each round.

Proposed Patreon Tiers

Entrant Tier: $3 per month or 1 article/video per month

• Entry into the GoatFormat.com Patreon Championship for yourself or a friend (if you were a Patreon for the prior 2 months* before it is held)
• Bye priority** over all non-Patrons in any tournaments
• Ability to change your own nickname on Discord (non-Patrons will no longer have this ability)
• For being a Patron, we’ll give a personal shoutout to you (and/or one of your social media accounts) in one article or video each month.

Loyalist Tier: $5 per month or 2 articles/videos per month

• All rewards from the entrant tier
• Bye priority** over all non-Patrons and the Entrant Tier in any tournaments
• The ability to have input into the direction of our organization via exclusive GoatFormat.com Backroom discussions with staff on discord
• Upload one emoji of your choosing to the discord server for as long as you remain a Patron. You may swap it out for a different one at any time

VIP Tier: $10 per month or 3 articles/videos per month

• All rewards from the Entrant/Loyalist tiers
• Bye priority** over all others in any tournaments
• The ability to make one article or video request per month and have it fulfilled within a reasonable time-frame
• Give away one additional entry into the GoatFormat.com Patreon Championship to a friend of your choosing (if you were a Patreon for the prior 2 months* before it is held).
• Ability to use the “Tweet This” function to tag discord messages to be tweeted.

*In other words, if you wanted to participate in the Patreon Championship on August 1st, you would have needed to have paid into our Patreon for June and July. It's effectively $6 per tournament to enter.

**The term "bye priority" refers to the fact that, in a double elimination tournament, first-round byes must be awarded if the number of entrants in the tournament is not exactly a power of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, etc). Rather that award these byes randomly, we would award them to the highest Patreon tiers first.
