Who doesn’t love an underdog? First, he overcame Canadian star Matt Peddle. Then, he defeated Comic Odyssey’s Juan Cardenas. Finally, he conquered the same team’s Michael Fukuyama. Nareg Torossian has broken out of obscurity and gone straight into the spotlight—he’s the Shonen Jump Indy 2005 champion! In a varied Top 8 that featured Goat Control but also saw impressive showings from Gravekeepers and Aggro Burn, Torossian’s win is especially impressive. Not a part of any major team, the Massachusetts duelist shocked onlookers by peeling through two of the game’s top players. He won game 1 of the finals, but he appeared beaten in game 2, until he scored an impressive comeback and demonstrated an incredible level of awareness. For his outstanding efforts, he’s earned a brand new laptop, Yu-Gi-Oh! product, an invite to the 2006 U.S. Nationals, and a wealth of other prizes. But of course, the most impressive prize the day had to offer was the first-ever North American copy of Des Volstgalph, the thrilling new Shonen Jump Championship prize card! The day is done, but more Shonen Jump Championships loom on the horizon! UDE’s Kevin Tewart has stated that Des Volstgalph will not be reprinted in a non-championship format for at least a year, so that means competition will be fierce for the mighty Dragon! Metagame.com will continue to bring you all the SJC action as the year progresses, and we’ll also bring you news of upcoming events and locations. Stay tuned all year round for more action!
