It’s been a long day, and it’s the final round. Both of these players are currently 6-1. The winner will make the Top 8, and the loser will need ungodly tiebreakers to have a shot at the Cyber-Stein. Despite the enormous gravity of the situation, both players were extremely lighthearted and certainly enjoying themselves.
Augusto won the die roll, opted to go first, and started with Pot of Greed. He then set a card to each zone and passed, holding on to Graceful Charity for later. Robert set two cards and a face down monster then passed. On Augusto’s draw, Robert flipped Ceasefire for 1000, revealing Magical Merchant and Sangan. Augusto decided to play his Graceful Charity at this point and dropped Mystic Tomato and Tribe-Infecting Virus into the graveyard before summoning Tsukuyomi and flipping his Merchant face down. He flipped it back up, revealing Premature Burial. Tsukuyomi attacked Sangan, and Robert used its effect to get D. D. Warrior Lady. Magical Merchant snuck in for a direct hit, then Augusto set a card and passed. During the end phase, Robert’s set Mystical Space Typhoon destroyed Augusto’s Torrential Tribute.
Robert summoned D. D. Warrior Lady and used it to attack Magical Merchant. He then set another card and passed. Augusto returned the favor with Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Robert’s Scapegoat. He then summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior and destroyed Robert’s face down Dust Tornado with it. He followed up with Premature Burial returning Mystic Tomato to the field, and then he attacked D. D. Warrior Lady with Breaker. Both were removed and then Mystic Tomato swung directly.
Robert summoned Tribe-Infecting Virus and then discarded Lightning Vortex to destroy all Plants. He attacked directly and ended his turn. Augusto summoned Enraged Battle Ox and attacked the Virus. He set a monster and ended his turn.
Robert used Premature Burial to get back Sangan, then tributed it for Airknight Parshath, choosing to search for Tsukuyomi. Airknight attacked the Battle Ox, but Mirror Force stepped in to save the day. Robert chained with Book of Moon to save his Airknight, and then he tributed it to Metamorphosis during main phase two to bring out Dark Balter the Terrible. After a quick perusal of the card text, Augusto flipped a Magician of Faith to get back Snatch Steal, stole the Balter, then summoned Sinister Serpent and attacked for exactly enough to win the game.
Augusto 1, Robert 0
Both players side decked, musing about the ramifications of Morphing Jar. A common theme among feature match players, it seems. Robert opted to go first, and he began with a face down spell or trap. Augusto read it to be Scapegoat and summoned Asura Priest in anticipation of the Sheep tokens’ fuzzy appearance, then attacked directly. He set a card and then ended. Robert summoned Blade Knight and swung directly. He laid another card and ended his turn.
Augusto set a card to each zone, and sent it back to Robert, who attacked the monster immediately. Mystic Tomato was destroyed in battle, and it brought out Sangan to replace itself. Robert decided to end his turn without playing anything else. Augusto turned Sangan to defense position and then set a third card. Robert felt now was the time to play Heavy Storm, and he did so, destroying his own Mirror Force. Augusto chained Ring of Destruction to blow up Robert’s Blade Knight. Robert then summoned D. D. Warrior Lady and ran it into Sangan, removing both from play. He ended his turn with one more face down card.
Augusto summoned Asura Priest again and attacked, only to be met by Book of Moon. Robert set a card to each zone and passed his turn. Augusto flipped the Priest again, and attacked into Robert’s face down Spirit Reaper. Augusto set a new monster and ended. Robert set a monster as well and ended. Augusto flipped over Magician of Faith and used it to retrieve Mystical Space Typhoon. The Typhoon destroyed Robert’s face down Metamorphosis, and Augusto tributed his Magician for Airknight Parshath. Airknight ran through the Reaper then Augusto removed light and dark for Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and removed Robert’s face down Tsukuyomi from play. He set two more cards and ended his turn.
Robert had Snatch Steal waiting for the Soldier, and he stole it away to remove Airknight Parshath from the game. He then summoned D. D. Assailant and attacked directly. Augusto gained 1000 life points during the standby phase. He summoned Asura Priest and rammed it into the Assailant, removing both from the game, then ended his turn. Robert switched his Reaper to attack position and attacked into Augusto’s Scapegoat. The Reaper took out a Sheep token, then Robert set a card and passed. Augusto played Messenger of Peace and passed. Robert eliminated the rest of the Sheep then ended his turn.
Augusto was still gaining 1000 life points per turn, and Robert couldn’t attack with any of his big monsters. Augusto was looking for a spell or trap removal card in a big way, as getting one would return his Soldier to him and almost ensure his win. He summoned D. D. Warrior Lady and tried to attack, but it was too big to attack under the Messenger. He had already summoned it, though, so it remained on the field as Augusto passed his turn. Robert played Giant Trunade to return all the spells and traps to their owners’ hands, then dropped Snatch Steal again. He summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, then sent Black Luster Soldier into D. D. Warrior Lady and both were removed. The remaining monsters swung directly and Robert set a card before ending.
Augusto drew Pot of Greed and played it. He then summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior and used its effect to destroy Robert’s face down Nobleman of Crossout. He attacked the Spirit Reaper, then set a card, played Messenger of Peace, and ended. Robert simply passed, and August switched his monster to defense position and set another one before ending. Robert passed again, and Augusto opted not to pay for his Messenger. He flipped over his Magician of Faith to get back Mystical Space Typhoon and he played it to destroy Robert’s Torrential Tribute. Augusto then summoned Tribe-Infecting Virus and discarded to clear Robert’s field. Finally, he attacked to win the game.
Augusto Mota wins the match, 2-0.
