So it's come to this. This morning, forty-seven players entered Goatformat.com's first World Championship event. After a series of grueling high-quality matches, we are down to just four. Congratulations to these exceptional players. Who will come out on top? Make sure to see it live on our Twitch or Youtube channels! Want to gain a better idea of who you are rooting for? What card had been overperforming for you today? Triple Dekoichi. That card helps me take the lead as fast as I can. What has been your favorite moment of the event so far? At the moment, some comebacks versus multiple trinity openings in the first rounds. If you could go back, what (if any) changes would you would make to your deck today? I don’t see any weakness at the moment. Chaos Turbo decks nowadays can’t fit everything. So, I think you’re always missing our on some cards so you can play others. Ronie Calderon (SparkyFlary)
What deck did you play today and why? I chose anti-meta warriors because it's the deck that I'm mostly used to and pretty much use most of the time in tournaments. My other deck I a conjured up for FLC4 was Gearfried anti-meta warriors. I made that deck specifically to beat goat control and to be tough enough to handle other threats. For this tournament, however, I chose a pure anti-meta build with additional Mystic Swordsman LV2 in the main because the meta has shifted into mostly Chaos Control builds. There's been a trend towards these types of decks, and most of them main a good number of flip monsters. This is when it occurred to me that, what if I can turn that strength of theirs into a weakness? What if the extra defense and power cards of theirs can be ran over by the little guy? That's why I put in a playset of LV2's. The rest of the deck was part of the Gearfried build and I re-arranged the cards for the extra anti-meta part to fit in. If Gearfried was a Joey deck, I think this one was closer to a Yugi. I even put BLS and Mystic Swordsman LV4 in the side to make it look like it. What decks or players were you looking forward to playing against? Honestly, I wanted to play the least the challenging opponents possible. Actually, those famous IRL players sounded interesting to me in the chats and I wanted to see how well they did compared to our online community. I don't see them often online, but even though it's been years since 2005 they still got it. What decks or players were you NOT looking forward to playing against? When I entered the tournament, I planned the deck out to play a strong competition. Anything else not part of the plan, like rogue or mirror matches etc., would be a bit of a problem. I know that almost no one else plays aggro decks, so I had a clear opening to enter with one and give the other players a good challenge. There are some pretty challenging players with meta decks, though. The person I lost to in the last tournament was FDS. I misplayed, plus he ran Goat-type cards with Chaos. It's not easy to predict what kind of deck those will end up being. I have not played everyone who entered in the past, but I consider GeistD and Riclar to be pretty high up there in terms of players I was not looking forward to playing against. GeistD has a Chaos Warrior deck with strong monsters that he did well with, and his other decks seem to spring up Chaos Sorcerer at opportune moments. Riclar runs a mean Chaos Control with lots of defense monsters and a lot of aggro hate in the side (the type of deck that I was trying to prepare for). What card had been overperforming for you today? The anti-meta warrior deck works mostly as a team and every card has its job to do when the time comes. Besides the staple cards, I'd probably say Trap Dustshoot was high up there in cards that did well for me. What has been your favorite moment of the event so far? My favorite moment would be when I played against almost every famous player and got a spotlight moment for it. My other favorite moment was when InsiDS upped his money game by betting on me on the draft, lol. If you could go back, what (if any) changes would you would make to your deck today? I would consider how or when to use the Mystic Swordsman LV4. I haven't had too much practice with it, but it seems like a cool card to have (at least in the side). I don't think I'd make too many changes at all. Maybe three LV2's might have been too much, but it didn't hurt either. Lazaro Bellido (Bullet88)
What has been your favorite moment of the event so far? Summoning a Reaper on the Nightmare when my opponent and I were nearly goat locked. If you could go back, what (if any) changes would you would make to your deck today? I would probably make some different side deck choices for alternate win decks, but in terms of the main deck, nothing. Dale Bellido ((GN)Dale)
If you could go back, what (if any) changes would you would make to your deck today?
Nope. just changes in the side deck.
