So the inaugural GoatFormat.com World Championships are behind us at long last, and boy, do we have a metagame breakdown for you.
Continuing with the predominant narrative of 2020, Thunder Dragon was absolutely huge at this event. Together, Chaos Turbo and Thunder Dragon Chaos Control fell just short of an outright majority of decks in the field, with Chaos Warrior and Goat Control trailing closely behind.
Not too much to say about the overall records of each deck. Chaos Warrior performed abysmally relative to its share of the metagame. Chaos Turbo, Thunder Dragon Chaos Control and Goat Control each went even or better. Pure Warriors finished with an impressive 71% winrate, but only one player used it, which brings us to...
Who expected Bazoo Return or Empty Jar in the top 8 of Worlds? Who expected Chaos Turbo not to be the most represented deck in top 8? Your overall takeaway from the top 8 split will depend on what you personally value in the data. The lone Chaos Turbo player ran through the entire tournament without dropping a match, but Control variants claimed half of the spots in top 8. SparkyFlary and MMF continued their traditions as lone wolves representing their respective pet decks. The Bellido brothers proved that theirs were the best Thunder Dragon Chaos Control decklists of the day. And two very different Goat Control players in lolmarcus and NB96 proved that "Ol' Reliable" can still hang with the big dogs.
And so concludes the bulk of our Worlds coverage. We here at GoatFormat.com would like to take this moment to thank each and every one of you for sticking with Goat Format through thick and thin, from the earliest days of the Revival all the way to the present day. None of this would have been possible without every single one of you. We'll be entering into an off-season for the rest of the year, but stay tuned for more information on all of the crazy awesome things we've got in store for 2021!
