We're in day two of the Goat Format World Championship 2022! The top 16 players have now gathered for an intense double-elimination end to the biggest event of the year! These top players are bringing their best to the tables in the hopes of winning it all, and sometimes their best also happens to have a bit of spice. Take Simon Guinhut (AKA Dingosig) for example, who has made it to day two with a sweet Chaos Return list!

Deck List

Chaos Return decks take advantage of Chaos Sorcerer's banish cost to fuel Return From the Different Dimension. This creates big swings at scary speeds, making the deck feel almost like a combo deck in some cases.

The strategy usually plays a full set of Chaos Sorcerer, but Guinhut has instead opted to play only one, potentially to limit brick hands, as well as his overall reliance on the "combo". Bazoo the Soul Eater makes an appearance to banish more monsters, while Shining Angel acts as easy fuel.

Player Insight

Despite the deck itself being a bit of a rogue strategy, Guinhut took it a step further when he opted to bring it to the biggest event of the year. He's made some interesting decisions in designing his list, which he was more than happy to talk with us about.
I choose to play this deck because this is what I'm the most comfortable with. I think it has a good matchup against the two most popular decks: Chaos Turbo and Warrior. I also believe playing something a little different gives me an edge, as people don't have an optimized side deck plan for my build.

My goal was to build the deck to beat Warrior and Turbo. I think flips + recruiter + Zaborg is a strong package in this meta. I also tried to make return consistent and powerful by playing three Deko, three Spy, chaos monsters, Bazoo, as well as monsters with [high] attack points to make sure everything I return back to the field can deal big damage. The trap lineup helps me to stay aggressive and maintain early advantage, as well as making a Return game shot easier.

A lot of people believe Angel is a bad monster and in a vacuum I think they are right. But, when people suggest ways to cut it, it often involves making some of my matchups worse, or require building a very different deck. I think Zaborg decks might be underrated and Return is also quite underutilized considering how powerful it can be. I ended up realizing that Angel is kind of a way for me to glue those two strategies together while building a deck that fit my playstyle.
Guinhut started the second day of the event with an impressive 5-2 record. Recounting the previous half of the event, he didn't have too much to say, but he made sure to shout out his favorite cards of the day!
I got lucky, made some good plays and some really bad ones. I don't have any crazy stories to share but I was satisfied with how the deck ran.

Try building around Zaborg and/or Return because those cards are heat!
