Goat Format World Championship 2021 Deck Tech: Lockdown Burn

One of the last strategies anyone would have thought to have a showing at Worlds was Lockdown Burn, but here we are! Peter Tran had enough confidence in the deck to play it in the year's largest tournament. Let's see what he has to say for himself!

Deck List

Lockdown Burn decks tend to keep their opponent's monsters at bay using floodgates like Gravity Bind or Messenger of Peace. Once they are set up safely behind their walls, they will sling burn spells and effects at the player across from them until they win.

Tran's list is different from traditional lists in a few ways. For one, it's playing many more floodgates than what is normally seen, and in much greater variety. Additionally, it seems to have ditched many commonly seen burn cards for more protection, like Magic Jammer and Seven Tools of the Bandit. Of course, there's also the transformational sideboard into Stein Combo for games two and three!

Player Insight

Burn or not, Tran definitely knows what he's doing. He wouldn't be a contender in the World Championships otherwise. Though he didn't have a lot to say in relation to his list, he was willing to give us this:
No one expects me to play it, so I do. I was trying to get a favorable win for game one. Then,  I side into Stein games two or three.
The Stein sideboard is definitely a highlight of Tran's deck, so of course he had something to say about it!
My opponents that lose it never see Cyber Stein coming. Beceause of this, it's a fun deck to play!

Last year you posted all the competitors' lists and I was very grateful for that. Even if you don't get around to it this year, that's okay because this was the list that didn't survive to day 2 that I was most interested in! A bunch of people in chat were talking about it. Love the maindeck Prohibitions. Obviously big fan of WMC. What a baller choice for worlds. Thanks for the writeup!
