Goat Format Championship 20 Deck Tech: RogueShea's "Emissary Fairy Chaos"

Emissary Aggro decks, while not popular, are nothing new to the Goat Format Championship series. We've showcased the strategy before during GFC16. Marvin Shea (AKA RogueShea) has taken the deck to new heights, though. By combining the rogue deck with a Fairy engine and a Chaos core, they've developed something never before seen at a Goat Format Championship event!

Deck List

It's hard to pin RogueShea's deck down, as it looks to be a combination of three different decks. It plays Emissary of the Afterlife as an aggressive floater that can search out the 1700ATK normal monster Sonic Duck when it dies. This is the hallmark of Emissary Aggro decks. However, it also plays The Agent of Creation -  Venus, which is used to fill the board with Mystical Shine Balls, another normal monster. The potential to weave the two cores together is clear, and their respective DARK and LIGHT typing make them ideal for a Chaos engine as well.

In general, it seems like you could view the deck as a more aggressive Chaos strategy that opts to use the Emissary and Venus engines for card advantage instead of Thunder Dragon. This gives the deck more of a board presence, and keeps the opponent under pressure at every stage of the game.

Player Insight

Shea was more than happy to share a treasure trove of information regarding the deck, so I'll let the expert speak on it all instead of trying to make guesses on card choices and strategy!
The main reason I chose this deck was because it fits my playstyle. I'm an aggressive player so I'm aways trying to build aggressive versions of every deck I use. Chaos decks in general are usually slow paced, so I wanted a way to play the Chaos strategy but in a more offensive way and that's what this deck does.

The template of my deck was from the Emissary channel on GF discord. When Grumplestielzchen posted a deck using the Venus and Emissary with Horn of Heaven I told him it looked fun and that I would make a few changes and test it. I started testing the deck and made changes after every ten matches. My design choices were made through pure field testing where I replaced low impact cards.

The deck is designed to be the aggressor instead of responding to the opponent's plays, so I decided to utilize spell cards mostly. Creature Swap has a lot synergy with Venus, Ball, and Emissary. Opening Venus with Zaborg usually means you will be clearing the way for a direct assault on you next turn. Smashing Ground was a tech choice that became a staple because it helps with clearing GK Spy and TER game one. The side deck is a bit standard except for United We Stand, which is a great card in aggro match-ups and also against Burn. Bottomless is a bit odd too but it is great against warriors, Earth Aggro and even RGT if they don't have Jinzo when using Dimension Fusion.

My hardest and most intense match was against Apoptosis playing Stumbling (maybe due to my dislike for not being able to attack). I had to find ways to be the one with the face-up attack position monster. This was very stressful because I hate being stalled... At one point I had to Mind Control into Creature Swap to keep the momentum... Mind Control to Swap is one of the many ways you can keep the pressure on, especially against slower decks.

It's way stronger than it seems, and have bounced back from opponents opening full trinity on my occasion.
