Goat Format Championship 15 Deck Tech: Chaos Warrior Ft. Exchange

Chaos Warrior is often considered one of the premier competitive decks in the format. Most players who choose to play it usually choose stock lists, often very close to lists which have topped recent events. Every so often, though, you'll find someone like Luca C. (AKA funky2) who decided to shake things up and add a little spice to a tried and true strategy!

Deck List

Picture
Chaos Warrior is a powerful variant of Warriors which makes use of chaos monsters like Black Luster Soldier and Chaos Sorcerer. It has had many top placements in large events during the historical era  (like Joe Whittaker's top eight list at UK Nationals 2005) and during the modern era (like Lukaz's list from the first Patreon World Championship Qualifier).

Lights Warriors like Blade Knight and Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke are paired with Darks like Don Zaloog. Of course, non-warrior staples like Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer are also played. Together, they allow for strong aggression while also supporting the Chaos lineup. And, of course, this is all tied together neatly with

Reinforcement of the Army.

Luca's list is a little different, though, as he makes use of multiple copies of Exchange, a card almost never seen in competitive lists for any deck.

Player Insight

Discussing the deck and its unique card choices, Luca had this to say:

I chose to create an aggro deck that could also be used in a control way. It uses stall cards and some sweet escapes like Magician of Faith and and Mask of Darkness.

I wanted to put Exchange in a deck, so I was thinking Chaos Warrior with Thunder Dragons would have be the right choice. this is because Chaos Warrior also runs three Solemn Judgement and Trap Dustshoot. This allows me to imprint a control strategy into the game.  so With this idea in mind, I followed up by running Raigeki Break, Sinister, Tomato and Sangan in the main.

The idea of different matchups really impacted my side in a strange way. Next time, I will definitely spend more time testing different sides against different matchups before the event.

Exchange is definitely an interesting card, and it makes perfect sense to run it alongside something like Thunder Dragon. Playing an aggressive shell means you're often able to set many backrow cards safely, too. this further manipulates your opponent's choices when resolving the card. Interesting ideas all around! So, how did the deck fair?
Well, I lost a game against a solid Gravekeeper deck, but I did make some mistakes there. The other matchup I lost was against another Chaos Warrior player, but it was a more common version like what we've seen lately in the meta. In that match, luck played its part in many ways so I'm satisfied with the results in the end!

I think this deck worked really good. It's maybe is one of the best I've played in 2021. I tested zero times because I had no time in the previous day, but I will definitely play with this kind of deck in other tourneys! Thanks to Goat format all the people that works in it and a special shout to Goat Bologna!
