Goat Format Championship 14 Deck Tech: Rescue Cat

Though not completely unheard of, Rescue Cat OTK decks have not been seen in the spotlight of the format for a while now. This fact didn't stop Kersed from choosing the explosive (and cute!) deck for today's event, though!

Overview

Rescue Cat decks pair the adorable beast-type monster with Last Will, which allows it to chain an additional cat, filling the board with threats for huge swings in damage. While Milus Radiant is the most common target for Cat, Kersed's list does not play any copies of the living Gaia Power. Instead, he's opted for full playset of two other very common monsters for the deck: Des Wombat and Gyaku-Gire Panda

With both of these aggressive beaters sitting at only three stars each, Kersed, and many Rescue Cat players before him, is able to set up floodgates like Gravity Bind and Level Limit - Area B. This keeps him and his monsters alive, while he's still able to dish out the damage. As is common in these versions of the deck, Kersed has also included lots of powerful burns spells to sling at the opponent from behind his walls.

Player Insight

When asked why he chose Rescue Cat for the tournament, Kersed had a simple response: It’s powerful. I don't think many would argue with him, too. While not common, Rescue Cat OTK has had plenty of tournament success, and can be quite scary to be on the receiving end of. going into detail, Kersed said:

I was inspired to pick up the deck from AJTBLS initially, and then revisited it when Puy showcased Huta’s build on Jinzo&Tonic’s YouTube channel.

I chose to play the deck without Milus Radiant, which I haven’t seen before. I replaced it with a single copy of United We Stand. Other than that, the entire main was stolen from Huta, and I couldn’t improve the deck much further. I made some changes to the side, though.

Taking inspiration from others who have been successful with the strategy is never a bad thing. Ending the day with a record of 4-2, I think Kersed definitely did well, and I can only hope he continues to play the deck and hone his skills! Who knows, Maybe some day others will be looking at his lists, and asking for his advice (though it wouldn't surprise me if that were already the case).

Well, I was happy to beat a few good players, and I only lost to good players. So, I’m pretty happy for my first tournament.

I think this deck could steal a tournament with the right pilot and a little luck. Today just wasn’t the day for me.
