Goat Format Championship 12 Deck Tech: Double Tap Warriors

118 players are facing off in today's Goat Format Championship 12 event! Tired of playing traditional warrior lists, Dylicious was eager to "shake things up" with his creative "Double-Tap Warrior" list! Sitting at 2-0 so far, it's safe to say he's definitely making an impact!

Overview

Decks abusing the power of Mataza the Zapper are nothing new to Goat Format. Shane's 2018 "Aggro Bomb" list was piloted to a 3rd place finish at FLC 4, and we've seen mention "Double-tap Warrior decks in other capacities throughout the years.

Often paired with Hayabusa Knight, Mataza packs a seriously painful punch. Both are easily found with Reinforcement of the Army, and wear equipment like United We Stand and Mage Power to great effect. They're also quite helpful for clearing Scapegoat tokens, especially with Big Bang Shot. This being said, Mataza is clearly the better card. Higher attack, a dark attribute,

and the ability to ignore Thousand Eyes Restrict's gaze puts it over the top.

Though absent in Dylicious' list, both Gravity Bind and Level Limit - Area B are also popular support cards for the two-hitting warriors. Because both are level three, they can attack under the floodgates without fear of a swing back. Adding in cards like Robin Goblin to the mix can make things very nasty for the opponent.

Player Insight

Dylicious respects the power of Mataza, commenting that he feels the card is too often overlooked in the format. When asked about the specifics of the deck, he had this to say:

The deck is inspired by old Double Tap lists, with elements taken from modern Warriors (Solemn, Dustshoot, etc). The most glaringly obvious interaction would have to be Mataza the Zapper in conjunction with Robbin' Goblin to pluck two cards from the opponents hand. That would be the most recent idea I came up with (although I'm sure someone has done it before me).

A few other uncommon choices are Mirage Dragon and three main-deck Berserk Gorilla, with Gorilla being a card that's been gaining popularity recently and a good main deck choice versus Aggro decks.

The core of the deck stems from an old FLC list piloted by Shane, who used Mataza, Mirage Dragon, and Compulsory Evacuation Device. Aside from those 3 cards his list was much different and built for a time in the meta when Goat Control decks were a popular choice, while this one is geared for Turbo and Warriors. So, shout outs to Shane for inspiring the idea. The deck is really fun, and Mataza has been a pet card I've been toying with recently. This is the first event I've brought this list out for, so we'll see how the rest of it goes!

It's a really fun deck and I think people should try out new things like it. Even though standard Warriors is one of the best aggressive decks in the meta right now, I strongly believe there are other options that can contend with it. It may not and probably is not this list, but I think something a bit more optimized that includes Mataza the Zapper could be.

Though he says the list could likely be optimized, Dylicious is still making waves. He even had a few fun stories to tell from previous rounds!

I'm currently 2-0, so, so far so good. My first match was a 2-0 victory. In the second game, going second, I was able to clear my opponents field with Nobleman of Crossout and Heavy, and follow up with a Mage Power + Mataza. I then finished them off with Ring of Destruction on the following turn (waiting to see if one of their four cards were book of moon first).

My second match was a grindy one which went to a game three where I played out of a Snatch Steal and eventually an opposing BLS, which I compulsory evac'd back to the hand to clear the way for a Blade Knight (Whopper) and attack for game.

So far so good is right! He's still got a climb, but let's hope we can see Dylicious make it all the way to the top!
