This is it. It all comes down to this final match. Osman Ortiz is taking on Robert Lim for the final Cyber-Stein to be given away in a Shonen Jump Championship. The match began with a race to see who could get to the seat facing the windows first. Robert won, but since he’s such a nice guy, he let Osman have it anyway. After inspecting each other’s decks and shuffling up, they rolled the dice and began the match.
Robert won the roll and opted to go first. He started off with only a face down monster. Osman summoned Spirit Reaper, then used Nobleman of Crossout to rid the field of Robert’s monster. It swung directly and stole Giant Trunade from Robert’s hand. Osman set a card, then passed. Robert summoned Tribe-Infecting Virus and used its effect to destroy the Reaper. His attack was foiled by Sakuretsu Armor and he set a card before passing. Osman summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior and smashed up a Scapegoat. He hit a Sheep token and set a card before passing. Robert passed his turn, and Osman hit another Sheep token. Robert set a monster and Osman flipped Ceasefire for 1000. His Breaker the Magical Warrior took out another token, and the game continued.
Robert summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer and attacked Breaker, removing Spirit Reaper from the graveyard. Osman tried to Snatch Steal Kycoo, but Book of Moon saved the monster. Osman passed, and Robert tried an attack with D. D. Warrior Lady. It was successful, so Robert set a card and then ended. Osman was displeased with his hand, and he could only set a card and end. Robert continued to attack, but this time he was stopped by Scapegoat. Robert did not attack any of the tokens, but he did flip up his Kycoo once more. Osman dropped Metamorphosis, changing a Sheep token into Thousand-Eyes Restrict. However, it was hit by Book of Moon, and Osman passed
Robert attacked Thousand-Eyes Restrict and passed back to Osman, who played his second Metamorphosis to get another Thousand-Eyes Restrict. Robert pushed a Sheep token forward jokingly, and Osman declined his invitation to absorb it. He took the D. D. Warrior Lady instead and used it to attack a Sheep token. He set a monster, then ended his turn. Robert was looking pretty good with four cards in hand to Osman’s one, but the Thousand-Eyes Restrict on the field was rather worrisome. He chose to create his own Thousand-Eyes Restrict with a Metamorphosis, and he used it to eat Osman’s Thousand-Eyes Restrict. He passed his turn, and Osman drew Tsukuyomi. He summoned it to flip down Robert’s Thousand-Eyes Restrict and attacked it.
Robert played Swords of Revealing Light, revealing Osman’s face down monster to be Sangan. He attacked a Sheep token and passed his turn. Osman carefully checked both graveyards before summoning Tsukuyomi to flip down Kycoo. He couldn’t attack, so he ended his turn. Robert flipped Kycoo back up and took out the last Sheep token before passing. Osman drew into Delinquent Duo and played it, discarding Robert’s Jinzo. Robert chose to discard Snatch Steal. Osman played Tsukuyomi again, and the game continued.
Robert played his own Delinquent Duo, hitting Osman’s Tsukuyomi. Osman discarded Airknight Parshath, and Robert attacked Sangan. Osman fetched Spirit Reaper with its effect, and Robert passed. Osman set the Reaper and ended his turn, and along with it ended the Swords of Revealing Light. Robert summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior and used its effect to destroy Osman’s Call of the Haunted. He chained it to get back Sangan, and took Sangan’s effect again for Sinister Serpent. Robert attacked Spirit Reaper with both of his monsters, the passed. Osman summoned Tribe-Infecting Virus and cleared out Robert’s field of Spellcasters for a single discard. He attacked directly and ended his turn.
Robert summoned Blade Knight, and it swung through Tribe-Infecting Virus for 400 damage. Osman set a monster and a spell or trap, then ended. Robert used Mystical Space Typhoon on it, but Osman chained Dust Tornado to take out Robert’s Heavy Storm. Robert set a monster and passed. Osman finally summoned the Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning he’d been holding for a while and used it to remove Morphing Jar from the game. Robert set another defense monster and switched his Blade Knight over to defense position as well. The new face down monster was removed as well, and Osman followed up by using Book of Moon on his own Soldier. He brought it back up and its effects were reset. He attacked twice, bringing Robert down to 1100 life points. Robert drew and set a card. Osman flipped Magician of Faith to get back Book of Moon then attacked with it. Robert took the attack, but when Osman attacked with the Soldier, Robert played Scapegoat. Two Sheep tokens bit the dust, and Osman ended. Robert set a new monster, but Osman just removed it and flipped his Soldier down again with Book of Moon. He brought it back up and everything attacked to end the game.
Osman 1, Robert 0
Both players launched into their side decks once again, and Robert consulted with a judge over something in his side deck. Robert decided to go first again in the second game, and he started with Pot of Greed. He followed it up with a set spell or trap and ended. Osman had his own Pot of Greed, and he continued by summoning Spirit Reaper. The Reaper attacked, but was met with Ring of Destruction. Osman contemplated saving it with Book of Moon from his hand, and eventually he decided to do so. He set one more card and passed.
Robert took out Spirit Reaper with Nobleman of Crossout, then he summoned Tribe-Infecting Virus and attacked for 1600. He set one more card, then passed back to Osman, who summoned Tsukuyomi to flip Tribe-Infecting Virus face down. Tsukuyomi attacked, and Robert let it happen. Robert set a card to each zone then passed. Osman summoned Asura Priest then played Nobleman of Crossout on Robert’s Serpent. He chained with Ceasefire for 1000 damage, saving the Serpent, and Asura Priest took it out in the battle phase. Osman passed, and Robert brought back his Tribe-Infecting Virus with Call of the Haunted. He attacked successfully, then set two cards before ending.
Osman set a card to each zone and passed, and Robert attacked the monster revealing Sangan. Osman fetched out Magician of Faith with Sangan’s effect, and Robert ended his turn. Osman set his Magician, but Robert simply passed his turn. Osman was forced to flip it himself and he did so to return Pot of Greed to his hand. He played it, then summoned Tsukuyomi to flip his Magician down. He set two more cards and passed his turn.
Robert played Graceful Charity, discarding Sinister Serpent and Dust Tornado. He decided to try to attack the Magician, but he was stopped by Magic Cylinder. He set one more monster and ended his turn. Osman flipped his Magician again to get Pot of Greed for a third time, then played Nobleman of Crossout to rid the field of Robert’s face down Magician of Faith. Osman had nine cards in his hand at this point, and things were looking pretty good for him. He started placing cards in front of him as potential candidates for play, then finally decided to flip his Magician down again with Tsukuyomi. He played Swords of Revealing Light and another face down card, then ended his turn by discarding Asura Priest to get down to six cards.
Robert set a card to each zone, then passed back to Osman. Osman flipped his Magician of Faith, this time fetching Nobleman of Crossout. He played it, removing Robert’s Sangan from the field then finished by summoning Tsukuyomi once more and flipping down the Magician. Robert decided to try out the “setting cards I might play in front of me” strategy, but decided to end his turn instead of playing anything. Robert got back his Pot of Greed for the fourth time, but still couldn’t draw the mystery card he needed to win. He summoned Tsukuyomi again, and again the Magician went face down. At the end of the turn, he discarded King Tiger Wanghu, Spirit Reaper, and D. D. Warrior Lady.
Robert had no play, so he discarded Serpent and ended. Osman flipped Magician of Faith for his fifth Pot of Greed, and played it. He followed it up with Delinquent Duo discarding Robert’s Premature Burial. Robert dropped Snatch Steal again, a move that may have cost him the previous game, and Osman summoned Tsukuyomi to flip down his Magician. At the end of the turn, he discarded Spell Canceller and Scapegoat. Robert filled his last spell and trap slot and passed over to Osman, who flipped Magician of Faith and played Pot of Greed for a sixth time.
Osman finally decided to reveal his master plan, and rued the fact that he had not yet drawn Premature Burial. He decided to go for it anyway and played Heavy Storm. Robert chained Book of Moon to save his Virus and Scapegoat to try and save his lifepoints. However, Osman had his own Tribe-Infecting Virus, and the Sheep token met a nasty end. Osman then removed a Light and a Dark monster for Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, which attacked twice, and when added to the other monsters’ attacks, amounted to 5900 damage. Not quite enough to take out Robert, but his Ring of Destruction on Tribe-Infecting Virus in the draw phase was. “This one’s for Rhymus!” said Osman as he claimed the last Cyber-Stein for his team.
Osman Ortiz wins the match 2-0 and is the Shonen Jump Seattle Champion!
