Goat Format Championship 18
The last Goat Format Championship of the year is behind us, and Malte "AlephYa2" Löwecke is a Goat Format Champion at long last! This weekend's bracket was stacked to the brim with international talent, but Germany and Greece rose above the rest to claim both spots of Winners' Finals. Löwecke and Stathis "Marou_13" Maroufidis duked it out in a matchup between Cold Wave Monarchs and Panda Burn while Anthony Alvarado and Ivan Rossitto fought through the losers' runs of their lives: Alvarado survived a gauntlet of Rampage rivals Mark "YataYata" Field and Ivan "John Wick" Flores, while Rossitto had to contend with Enraged Pandas Nunzio "don't copy" Giugliano and Giorgio "giorgione" Flora as well as GFC mainstay Joshua "Wen-Ordo" Alicea. Three games and one wild gamble against a potential Mirror Force later, Alvarado advanced to play Maroufidis in Losers' Finals, but it wasn't meant to be: after falling behind in Game 1, Maroufidis clinched the next two games with a massive Cyber Jar in Game 2 and a clutch sequence of burn cards in the nick of time in Game 3. Löwecke was waiting for Maroufidis in Grand Finals, and a back-and-forth six-game series ensued, with Maroufidis earning the bracket reset in the first match but just barely falling short to Löwecke's signature combination of Royal Decree and Mobius the Frost Monarch in the last game of the second match! With his win this weekend in addition to this year's 3v3 Goat Format European Championship, Löwecke is on pace to match his brother Delinkquent's historic resume from last year, but we've still got a few tournaments to go, with a full month separating us from this year's World Championship. Congratulations again to Löwecke and all of our Top 8 competitors!
