Overview

Picture
Vanilla Aggro gets its name from its lineup of monsters, which usually consists of entirely normal-type (vanilla) monsters. Each monster, from Archfiend Soldier, to Lust Dragon, has a high ATK stat (most commonly 1900) and zero drawback, which the deck uses to start a beatdown plan from the word "go".

The deck is based on a unique card advantage system. Heart of the Underdog draws extra cards every time a normal monster is drawn, and Dark Factory of Mass Production is a pseudo Pot of Greed in the later game. Additionally, the higher-than-average ATK stat of Vanilla's monsters allow them to run over opposing blockers, gaining the pilot a "plus one" in card advantage every time. Using these cards and strategies, the deck aims to consistently throw bodies at the player across from it until they're overrun and out of options.

Skill Drain evens the playing field, taking away the effects of all of the opponent's monsters so that the only thing that matters are ATK and DEF stats, which Vanilla usually has the advantage in. Still, Vanilla has issues with any monster that has a higher ATK or DEF than 1900. So, cards like Order to Charge and Smashing Ground are frequently seen as answers.

Deck List

Neo Bug has the best all-round stats of any vanilla that does not have 1900 ATK. It is included to increase threat density and keep the aggression going. Solemn Judgement both keeps threats alive and protects the ever-important Skill Drain from removal.

Variants

Water Vanilla Aggro

The game plan of Water Vanilla Aggro centers on two interactions. The first is between Abyss Soldier and Dark Factory of Mass Production, and the second is between A Legendary Ocean and the deck's level five beaters.

With almost every monster in the deck being both a Water and a normal monster, Dark Factory of Mass Production can be used to fuel Abyss Soldier's ability without losing out on card advantage. Any loss in damage potential from playing the slightly weaker Water-based vanilla monsters is mended with Ocean boosting their ATK.

Ocean also reduces the level of every water monster by one star. This means all five-star monsters, like Giga Gagagigo and Terrorking Salmon, can be played without tribute. Their high attack is made greater by ocean, and they fit perfectly in a Skill Drain Shell.

Additional Card Options

Battle Footballer is sometimes played to stall Berserk Gorilla. It is most often seen in versions of the deck which also play Summoned Skull, so that it may act as tribute fodder for the Spy and Gorilla killer.

Non-Spellcasting Area stop Book of Moon, Snatch Steal, and floodgates like Level Limit - Area B from ruining the day. It's often difficult to find room for it, though.

Two-Man Cell Battle and Soul Resurrection both make swarming the field with threats a little easier. Like Non-Spellcasting Area, though, they are susceptible to removal, and their effects are not usually seen as better than anything else already played.

In Water Vanilla Aggro, Magic Reflector has potential as a protection for the many continuous spell cards played, including A Legendary Ocean, Heart of the Underdog, and Non-Spellcasting Area.
