Overview

Picture
A Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie special, Pyramid of Light uses the continuous trap to special summon the massive beast monsters Andro Sphinx, Sphinx Teleia, and sometimes Theinen the Great Sphinx. With their pseudo piercing effects and massive stats, even a single Sphinx can end the game.

The survival of Pyramid of Light is paramount to the deck's success and function, so protection for it is almost always included. Usually, this takes the form of Solemn Judgement, but Fake Trap, Curse of Royal, and Magic Jammer are also played.

The toon-like drawback of not being able to attack the turn they are special summoned very much hampers the deck's aggressive plan. So, it's common to play Skill Drain in order to prevent this. Drain acts as disruption against enemy effects, and is also protected by the same cards used to protect Pyramid.

Nimble Momanga, Sebek's Blessing, and even Life Absorbing Machine have all seen play, too. This is due to the high life cost of the Sphinx monsters, as well as Solemn and Drain.

Deck List

Reinforcement of the Army (RotA) increases our threat density by searching out Goblin Attack Force, who is a powerful beater under Skill Drain. RotA can also find Exiled Force, who also works under Drain since its effect activates in the graveyard.

Berserk Gorilla is also a fine Drain beater who's inclusion is partially because of Beast Soul Swap. Every Sphinx is a beast-type monster. So, because you can summon the same monster you bounce with it, Swap is prefect in the deck as protection against Sakuretsu Armor, Snatch Steal, or anything else that might target a Sphinx, Gorilla, or squirrel. With Skill Drain in play, it also allows Sphinx to attack twice un the same battle phase, which can easily end the game.

Additional Card Options

The deck's reliance on core traps makes A Cat of Ill Omen a popular consistency card, though it does slow the deck down, some. Versions which run the flip monster may also include Necrovalley and the Gravekeeper's pair. They stall out until the player can find Pyramid of Light, and when Necrovalley is in play, improves A Cat of Ill Omen's trap searching effect. Versions that play the Gravekeeper's do not play Skill Drain. However, Big Shield Gardna is sometimes played alongside Cat and without Necrovalley, since it eats Nobleman of Crossout plays, and sits under Skill Drain incredibly well.

Berserk Dragon (played with A Deal with Dark Ruler after a Sphinx death) is another powerful card under Drain. Though it's strong whether Drain is in play or not. Other Skill Drain all-stars include Fusiliar Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast and and Zombyra the Dark.

Final Attack Orders gives more consistency with the Goblin Attack Force plan. It also help to prevent Scapegoat from stalling the deck out.
