Overview

Picture
PACMAN is a card-advantage-focused lockdown deck. Its name is an acronym which stands for "pure advantage camels munch all noobs". The core of the deck is the many Pharaonic Guardian era monsters in its lineup. These monsters all share a similar mechanic which allows them to activate various abilities when you flip summon them, as well as the ability to flip themselves face down again once per turn. By protecting these monsters with traditional lockdown cards like Gravity Bind and Level Limit - Area B, PACMAN can starve the opposing player of resources and gain massive card advantage.

Though uncommon even today, PACMAN did have some historical success. For example, Steve Koelbel sleeved it up at the 2005 Nationals, and even had his list featured in a deck tech on Metagame.com. The deck has since been seen infrequently in online competitive events with mixed success.

Deck List

The following is Dan Williams' first place list from DGz Live 212. Emperor Vitiate played a nearly identical list in the Goat Format Championship 2 tournament, also taking first place. With a full three of each, there is a strong emphasis on the flip-flop monsters. Book of Moon and Compulsory Evacuation Device exist primarily to answer Thousand Eyes Restrict, but can solve other problems as well. In addition to Gravity Bind and Level Limit, a full three Wall of Revealing Light are also included. These add consistency, as well as answer attacks from lower-leveled monsters which may otherwise duck under your other lockdown cards.

Additional Card Options

Though Gravity Bind, Level Limit, and Wall of Revealing Light are the most common, there are other lockdown options available for PACMAN. These are normally cards that, when used in combination with each other, prevent attacks outright. These combinations are usually interchangeable with other lockdown cards PACMAN might use, though some are much less viable in a competitive setting.
  • Astral Barrier + Spirit Barrier
  • Dragon Capture Jar + DNA Surgery
  • Insect Barrier / Prickle Fairy + DNA Surgery
