Overview

Picture
Maha Vailo decks predate even Goat Format, though their strategy has not changed: Equip Vailo with as many equip spells as possible, and then kill the opponent in one or two attacks. Mage Power and United We Stand are the strongest of the deck's equips, but Axe of Despair, Big Bang Shot, and Blast with Chain are also popular.

Because Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu can search for any equip spell in the game, and Maha Vailo gains attack regardless of whether or not the equip originally had such an effect, almost any equip card can be used. This means that, aside from the aforementioned power equips, Maha Vailo decks have a high amount of variety when it comes to the equip spells they play.

With Maha Vailo's higher-than-average reliance on equip spells, the deck is extremely vulnerable to removal, as well as Book of Moon and Tsukuyomi. For this reason, the deck is seen as a sort of glass cannon, powerful at times, but easily disrupted.

Deck List

Abyss Soldier plays well with the core strategy of the deck, removing front and backrow protection alike so that it and other beaters can get in for damage. Aside from the traditional Sinister Serpent, the card also has synergy with Big Bang Shot. When combined, the equip spell becomes an alternative removal spell that can be recycled as needed.

Gora Turtle of Illusion is an unconventional inclusion which adds to the Water count of the deck for Soldier. It also holds equipment very well. With just a single Axe of Despair, it becomes extremely difficult to remove without a chaos monster or board wipe. It's also immune to Book of Moon and Snatch Steal, two of the deck's worst counters.

Spell Shield Type-8 protects Vailo from Book and Snatch, too. It also stops Nobleman of Crossout from targeting Kotetsu, the only flip monster in the deck.

Additional Card Options

Hayabusa Knight and Mataza the Zapper are infamous in their ability to handle equipment. They are often played alongside Vailo and friends.

Giant Trunade helps Vailo and others hit with their attacks, and pairs with Big Bang Shot in a similar way that Abyss Soldier does.

Equipment which would otherwise not improve ATK are more viable with Maha Vailo around. Raregold Armor, for example, protects everything else on board, and Rod of Silence - Kay'est stops Book shenanegins (though you can no longer equip anything to Vailo after it). Cards which have the drawback of reducing ATK, Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce, are also better. If including Gora Turtle, Metalsilver Armor is an interesting choice in equips which prevents all of your other monsters from being targeted by effects.
