Overview

Picture
Light Aggro is all about attacking with Light attribute monsters. Shining Angel searches out D.D. Warrior Lady (DDWL), Soul of Purity and Light is the special summon of choice, and Freed the Brave Wanderer kills off large threats. Each is made stronger with Luminous Spark (though not always played) and Thunder Dragon fuels many of the deck's strongest effects.

Many of the most powerful Light monsters are also warriors, like DDWL, Blade Knight, and Ninja Grand Master Sasuke. So, Reinforcement of the Army (RotA) is a popular inclusion in Light Aggro lists.

Deck List

Asura Priest prevents the deck from being stalled out by Scapegoat, and just like Shining Angel, it plays well with Creature Swap. Angel and Thunder Dragon act as fuel for Soul and Freed, clearing the way and producing multiple threats a turn for big swings in damage. Mirage Dragon protects these swings from battle traps like Sakuretsu Armor.

RotA lets us play singletons of many of the deck's warriors, which all act as toolbox answers to specific problems. Blade Knight either beats over 1900 ATK threats like Airknight Parshath, or eliminates flip monsters. Sasuke destroys walls like Gravekeeper's Spy, and DDWL and Freed erase the big baddies we might see.

Variants

Light Return

Light Return takes advantage of Soul of Purity and Light and Freed the Brave Wanderer's banish costs to play multiple copies of Return From the Different Dimension. With access to Thunder Dragon as a banish target combined with the previously mentioned monsters, Light Return finds it easier to create massive threatening board states than similar strategies. These variants will often play multiple copies of Mirage Dragon, which makes the all-in attacks created by Return much more reliable.

Additional Card Options

Skilled White Magician is common because of his great all-around stats and ability to wall off many of the format's most frequently seen threats. Though popular in the historic era, Reflect Bounder is now seen as too weak to Tsukuyomi and Book of Moon to see much play, but the machine has been known to appear in Light Aggro infrequently.

Thunder Nyan Nyan is the highest attack four-star monster available to Light Aggro (besides Armor Exe). However, monsters like Sangan, Exiled Force, and Breaker the Magical Warrior make running her a risk. Still, Skill Drain variants (which also tend to run Armor Exe and Skilled White Magician) more commonly include her.
