Overview

Picture
Heavy Slump combo decks fill their opponent's hand with enough cards to activate their namesake trap. After reducing their hand to two cards, the hope is that the opponent will be so far behind in card advantage that the Slump player can then overwhelm them.

In order to reach the eight card minimum requirement, Heavy Slump will play many bounce cards, as well as those which force the player to draw cards from their deck. Giant Trunade is the most frequently seen of the former, and Cyber Jar of the Ladder. Others include Golem Sentry, Guardian Statue,  Gravekeeper's Guard, Nightmare Penguin, and Compulsory Evacuation Device, to name a few.

Cards which limit the opponent's ability or desire to empty their hand are also popular. Chain Energy, for example, burns players for even setting something. Cold Wave straight up disallows it for a turn, and is best played the turn before Slump.

Deck List

With three Penguins, Abyss Soldier is a natural inclusion. It gives the deck some aggressive power, while still falling in line with the general strategy. Meanwhile, Des Koala takes advantage of the various bounce cards, and makes it easier to end the game in a timely manner (something the deck can struggle with after a successful Slump).

Variants

Chaos Slump

Chaos Slump is an amalgamation of Chaos Turbo decks and Heavy Slump combo. Here, Cyber Jar is searched for using Mystic Tomato and Sangan, or through Dekoichi draws. Once found, Book of Tayou activates it as soon as possible, hopefully drawing the Chaos Slump player a Heavy Slump if one was not already in hand. A full set of Giant Trunade is also included as either an alternative to the Cyber Jar method of filling the hand, or something to be used in combination with it.
