Goat Grand Prix Austin
We watched a Safari sweep in real time at Goat Grand Prix Austin. Congratulations to Sean Bush, our newest Goat Grand Prix Champion!
GGP Austin served as the site of the first-ever Goat Format War League Award Ceremony, where the Safari Zone members in attendance each received their own custom-engraved wooden tomahawks commemorating their Season 2 victory from just a few weeks earlier. That turned out to set the tone for the rest of the weekend, as Sean "Mercenary" Bush and Adam "AJTBLS" Teshuba worked their way through the Swiss rounds to opposite ends of the Top 8 bracket with near-identical Chaos Turbo decklists. There, Teshuba found himself in a chaotic mirror match (no pun intended) with a laser-focused Tyler "Notorious S.H.A.G." Veinot, on the warpath for his long-sought first Grand Prix title. With a seemingly-hopeless hand, Teshuba bluffed for his life against a strong but fragile grip from Shaggy, and it paid off: Teshuba represented a nonexistent Snatch Steal against Shaggy's held BLS for just long enough to draw into enough action to close out the match! On the other side of the bracket, Bush faced Adin "Winterreise" Peterson's finely-tuned Chaos Control and pulled out a win by the skin of his teeth, again by representing a Phoenix Wing Wind Blast that he didn't have against what would have been a strong push for Peterson. With the Safari Sweep complete, Teshuba and Bush played another mirror match for the title, and Bush, after barely squeaking into top 8 at 8th place, pulled off his first-ever Grand Prix victory! Congratulations to all of our Top 8 competitors on their hard-earned performances, and stay tuned for more action on the Grand Prix circuit! |
