Goat Format Championship 1

Chris "Smoker" Digregorio was undoubtedly the best player of 2019, having racked up no less than four major wins in the span of a single year. And after this weekend, he's looking like a favorite to do it again at the inaugural GoatFormat.com World Championship this coming October. Last year, Smoker won Luxury Gaming tournaments over Siwski, geistD, Dale and Tango, and now he's added the first-ever Goat Format Championship to his extensive resume by tearing through a bracket of brucete, Turna, Siwski and TheNano without dropping a match. And perhaps most surprising of all: he did it all with his tried-and-true Goat Control deck! Congratulations to Smoker on his historic win, and stay tuned for more information on GFC 2 next month!

Metagame Breakdown

After a weak year in 2019, Goat Control appears to be back as the order of the day here at GFC 1, taking a plurality of the field over some of the more popular decks of the previous year, like Reasoning/Gate and Thunder Dragon Chaos. Warriors remain a steady metagame force, as well as Empty Jar, hot off of its 2nd place finish back at FLC 9 last year. And fringe picks like Beastdown, Zombies, Monarchs and even Library FTK made a splash here as well.

In the end, Goat Control claimed victory over Angel Chaos in the finals. The overall takeaway: control is back, and it seems to be here to stay.
