Overview

Picture
As the name implies, direct attack uses monsters which have the ability to attack the opponent directly (regardless of whether or not they have monsters) as its nucleus. The most common and powerful of these monsters is Raging Flame Sprite, who gets stronger with every successful hit, though many others can also be considered.

Because of the weak stats of these monsters, lockdown cards like Level Limit - Area B and Gravity Bind are typically played in order to protect them and the Direct Attack player. It is also common to use equip spells like Mage Power in order to increase the power of the attackers.

Deck List

This list goes all in with Raging Flame Sprite and Mucus Yolk, the only direct attackers which have an attack-increasing effect. While Sprite can damage from the get go, Yolk begins with zero attack, and therefore needs a boost before it can begin to grow. This gives reason to play Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu, who searches out equips for Yolk or Sprite. Notably, Premature Burial can be found this way, too. Though it does not provide an attack increase, Rod of Silence - Kay'est prevents the opponent from using Snatch Steal, Book of Moon, or other threatening spells on the direct attackers.

In terms of protection, a mass of seven floodgates keep the opponent at bay while Mirage Dragon, Pitch-Black Warwolf, and Solemn Judgement prevent removal. Fake Trap protects many key cards, including Robbin' Goblin, which is more powerful than normal considering the monster line up.

Additional Card Options

Gear Golem the Moving Fortress, Jinzo #7, Servant of Catabolism, and Inaba White Rabbit are traditional direct attackers which could be included for different reasons. Rocket Jumper and Shadowslayer are more powerful, but require more setup. They are typically played in lists which run the Stumbling + Gravity Axe - Grarl lock.

As far as non-direct attackers are concerned, Mirage Dragon and Pitch-Black Warwolf exist mainly as permanent ways to prevent battle traps from destroying the direct attackers. Royal Decree is another option in this context, but it prevents floodgate traps from being utilized. UFO Turtle and Mystic Tomato can recruit Sprite or Yolk respectively, and give toolbox options as well.

Lists that play Kotetsu have many equip options at their disposal. Notably, Ekibyo Drakmord serves as a searchable removal option, and Mask of the Accursed pairs well with the large number of floodgates typically played. Finally, Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce combos with Sprite and Yolk extremely well.
