Overview

Picture
Destiny Board is a hybrid lockdown and combo deck. The primary goal of the deck is to soft lock the opponent long enough to activate and fully resolve the effect of Destiny Board, winning the game. Because of the nature of the card, there are many restrictions in deck design for this strategy.

A Cat of Ill Omen is often used to find the titular card, while Emergency Provisions is commonly played in order to clear the spell/trap (S/T) zones for Spirit Messages. Because of the combo-style win condition, draw cards like Upstart Goblin, Jar of Greed, and Reckless Greed are also popular.

Destiny Board is often seen as a gimmick strategy. To date, is has no known tournament placements in either the historic era, or the modern era. Despite this, it is an iconic enough strategy, thanks in part to its appearance on the Yu-Gi-Oh! show, to have a decent following in casual circles.

Deck List

Because the S/T zone is restricted, Destiny Board decks are limited on the floodgates they can play. Messenger of Peace is included in this list because one can choose to not pay its life point cost in order to make room for spirit messages. Swords of Revealing Light is included for similar reasons. Spirit Reaper also helps protect the player and does not use up precious S/T slots.

Magic Reflector prevents the opponent from destroying Messenger of Peace, but can also put counters on spirit messages if needed. It can be recycled with Magician of Faith, who can also bring back Messenger, card draw spells, or spirit messages, should things go awry.

Additional Card Options

Mask of Darkness is sometimes included to retrieve lost Destiny Boards or other important traps. Similar to Spirit Reaper, Gravekeeper's Spy serves as a decent wall that does not use of S/T slots. It can also thin out the deck, helping find combo pieces faster.

There are a slew of protective traps which can be played to keep Destiny Board and its pieces from being destroyed. Fake Trap and
Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell are the most notable. However, playing these cards makes the Destiny Board pilot much more reliant on Emergency Provisions or other similar cards to keep S/T zones empty when needed.
