Overview

Picture
Deckout decks win by reducing their opponent's deck to zero cards as quickly as they can. Needle Worm, Cyber Jar, and both the original Morphing Jar (MJar) and Morphing Jar #2 (MJar2) are all commonly used to this end, with Book of Moon, Book of Tayou, and Tsukuyomi speeding up this process. Typically (accounting for the opening hand and subsequent card draws) this will take around six activations of one or more of these key monsters.

While there are benefits to focusing on a win condition that ignores life totals, this is typically a slow process. Therefore, soft lock cards like Level Limit - Area B, Messenger of Peace, and Gravity Bind are often used to protect the player and their weak monsters.  The strategy is also weak to Nobleman of Crossout, which is why Spell Shield Type - 8 and similar traps are commonly included.

Deck List

A typical Deckout list. Tsukuyomi plus the books allow repeated activations of the worm and jars. Floodgates protect them and the player. Needle Ceiling pairs well with the jars, and in general can prevent the field from getting out of hand.

Marron Deckout

Marron Deckout eschews the worm and jar strategy and instead simply tries to survive until the opponent decks out from natural card draws. In order to ensure that the pilot does not run out of cards before their opponent, Outstanding Dog Marron is played, which can be discarded to the maximum hand-size rule and prevent a loss. There are a plethora of strategies played which keep the Marron player alive, but traditional floodgates like Level Limit and Gravity Bind are common. Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell is also popular, as it prevents Heavy Storm, Giant Trunade, Mystical Space Typhoon, and other deadly spells from being cast and/or recycled.

Additional Card Options

Hiro's Shadow Scout reduces the opponent's deck count by three, while also stopping them from drawing Heavy Storm or Mystical Space Typhoon. Spear Cretin and The Shallow Grave reanimate lost worms or jars. Cretin specifically can stall indefinitely with enough copies, too.

While Gravity Bind and Level Limit are by far the most commonly used lockdown cards, there are other options available that have seen play. These are normally cards that, when used in combination with each other, prevent attacks outright. These combinations are usually interchangeable with other lockdown cards in Deckout and its variants, though some are much less viable in a competitive setting.
  • Hiro's Shadow Scout
  • Spear Cretin
  • The Shallow Grave
  • Desert Sunlight
  • Cockroach Knight
  • Astral Barrier + Spirit Barrier
  • Dragon Capture Jar / Insect Barrier / Prickle Fairy + DNA Surgery
  • Cat's Ear Tribe + Kishido Spirit / Heart of Clear Water
  • Stumbling + Gravity Axe - Grarl
