Overview

Picture
One of the more popular of goat format's archetypal monster decks, Beastdown uses beasts and their support cards to win through all out aggression. The most successful of these lists focus on Enraged Battle Ox and his ability to give other beasts Piercing. This is particularly effective against decks that use small flip-effect monsters, or scapegoat.

Because the deck's mainstay monsters tend to have low DEF stats, traps like Sakuretsu Armor and Trap Dustshoot are commonly used to prevent Tsukuyomi and Book of Moon from halting the onslaught.

Versions of the deck tend to split into two camps: those that run Giant Rat and a package of search targets, and those that run King Tiger Wanghu. Both are strong options, but it's difficult to play them together due to Tiger's effect. Some will even opt for more unconventional beasts and support.

Deck List

Sporting the format's most powerful beast monsters, this is almost as aggressive as the format gets. Asura Priest, King Tiger, and Ox all prevent Scapegoat tokens or other small monsters from stalling you out, while Warwolf stops battle traps in their tracks. Book of Moon is a catch all that answers Thousand Eyes Restrict, and, as mentioned previously, both Saku and Trap Dustshoot keep beasts safe from Tsukuyomi.

Additional Card Options

There are a plethora of beast monsters and support cards to choose from when deciding on a list. Of those not already mentioned, Chiron the Mage sees play in some successful lists. The same can be said for Gyaku-Gire Panda, who can be searched for by Giant Rat and brings even more piercing to the table. Manticore of Darkness and Behemoth the King of All Animals are large threats played from time to time. The ladder is sometimes paired with The Trojan Horse for easy summoning. While thematically relevant, and not without their merits, these rarely find their way into competitive lists.

Beast Soul Swap can summon the same monster that was returned to the hand. This means it can be used defensively to save a monster from removal, but also gives aggro potential, as it can allow one monster to attack twice in the same turn. Wild Nature's Release boost attack stats for even more damage, but the deck's most commonly played monsters have low defense values, and losing the monster at the end of the turn is usually not worth it. Keeping these drawbacks in mind, it's often better to just play equip spells like Mage Power or United We Stand.
