Team Goat Format Championship 8 (GFC3vs3)

9/26/2026

Once a year, GoatFormat.com runs a “3 versus 3 Championship.” Teams of three go head to head in three simultaneous matches against members of another team. The first team to win two matches wins the round, and if the third match is still ongoing, it is canceled. What’s more, the 3v3 is the only Goat Format event in which players are allowed to coach each other during matches.

These combined factors make the 3v3 one of, if not the most, beloved events of the year, and the numbers back this up. On August 23rd of 2026, 49 teams (147 players!) gathered to throw down for 6 invites, awarded to the two top teams. This doubled last year’s 24 teams and was large enough that the event, in a double-elimination format rather than our standard Swiss rounds, had to finish top 4 on another day.

The 3v3 is a great event for players to learn and grow by dueling with others. This author personally has the 3v3 to thank for her first Goat Format team and tons of growth and experience. Nonetheless, the 3v3 format does little to offset the pure skill Goat Format has to offer, and the cream of the crop still rises to the top. Also note that 3v3 teams are generally most successful when running 3 slightly different variations of the same deck. This may be because each player is sufficiently informed about the play style as a whole to best coach and deliberate on teammates’ moves and make the best plays (or it may simply be that the list run is the most tested and downbeat). Here’s our top 8 teams, featuring familiar faces and a couple of upsets.

Tied for 7th place were “Fake Taxi” and “The New Age of Warriors.” TNAoW is aptly named for three powerful and relatively new Warrior duelists: SS95, IM_FBN, and captain Killer9208. Killer and FBN were on solid stock Warrior decks, while SS95 continued to wave the banner for Picatron’s Warrior Turbo.

Fake Taxi was headed by captain Wisk (aka Siwski aka The Baggio Controller) using Panda Burn maining 3 Jar of Greed and 3 Gravekeeper’s Spy. Spy and Jog were both experimented with in 2023, but a more grounded understanding of what Panda Burn should look like from Worlds 2025 allows both to be revisited and recontextualized. The same goes for his side, which can both convert into removal-heavy beatdown or commit harder to stalling with Solemn and Sakuretsu Armor. JCVD93 is well known for wild goat control decks and has more recently experimented with super sack Chaos Turbo variants using Cyber Jar, Dark Magician of Chaos, and Desert Sunlight. Now he seems to be smashing the two together into what I can only call “Chaos Turbo Control.” The main has a little bit of everything, and the side allows it to pivot harder into Chaos Turbo, Decree Chaos Control, or even a little bit of Warrior. Jacksworn toed the line with a solid build of Chaos Turbo. Notably absent are Scapegoat and Metamorphosis in the side, consistent with tops from the recent FLC.

Tied for 5th place were teams “Parto” and “Noobs.” Parto was headed by Perfect Pair (aka 2Palle), and alongside him were redgamer7 and Usain Bolt (aka Nikoschatz aka “Mr. Double Dot”). All three of these players brought Chaos Turbo, and none of these players sided Goats or Meta

Noobs (somewhat of a misnomer) included FernandoKnorres, DDaymeric, and captain Slim. All three players ran a Scapegoat control variant, but each differed enough to keep everyone on their toes. Dday played Goat Control, Slim played Chaos Control, and Knorres played Relinquished Chaos Control. Most of Quish’s success in modern Goat Format came from abandoning the common sense of playing it with Scapegoat in favor of a Turbo variant (with the exception of Pettybourgeoisie
. It’s exciting to see RCC return to the limelight, especially using Phoenix Wing Wind Blast over Raigeki Break.

In fourth place we have team “ONI”: O for Oracle, N for Nessappouliata, and I for InsiDS. The two Damage Step veterans rocked a standard Chaos Turbo, while Nessa brought Warriors teching Skilled Dark Magician for the mirror. Of note in InsiDS’s build are Xing Zhen Hu and Jowgen, the Spiritualist in the side deck. Both are known side deck all-stars, but neither is commonly seen in Turbo.

The grand finals came down to a battle of three known threats and three players new to the online scene. On the second-place team, “Absolute Backshots,” GalaxiaD and Startsr were on Chaos Turbo, and Ushuckle was on Warriors. GalaxiaD’s deck includes some interesting choices such as 2 Night Assailant with no Card Destruction and 2 side deck Metamorphosis with no Scapegoats or level 1s besides the normal 2 Faith and Serpent. More surprising was Ushuckle’s sideboard. His was one of the only Warrior tops of the season to include more spells than monsters, and certainly the only one to max out Mystik Wok! Nevertheless, their teamwork and dedication brought them all the way to second and three invites in the biggest 3v3 Goats has had. A huge congratulations is in order!

Nonetheless, they ended up falling to our newest 3v3 champions: The Shenanigators. Scrub4Life, Grumplestielzchen, and especially LaBounty are no strangers to the game. These unlikely combined forces tore up the bracket undefeated, including beating Backshots in both winners’ and grand finals! Bounty rocked hias tried and true Warriors, siding 2 Asura Priest and 2 Big Bang Shots for the chance to OTK Scapegoat decks out of nowhere, Grumple ran Chaos Return with the meta-call mainboard Roulette Barrel, and Scrub ran Warrior with the insane potpourri of sideboard monsters we’ve come to know and love. Congratulations on such a dominant run and the title of Team GFC 7 champions!

Despite the organizational challenge of running a team tournament, it never fails to be one of the most memorable events of the year. What will next year’s GFC 3v3 have in store for us? Only time will tell.
