Goat Format World Championship 2024 Deck Tech: NBCCrew22's Chaos Return

Despite this being the World Championships, plenty of players brought unconventional strategies to today's event. NBCCrew22, for example, brought a really cool Chaos Return list featuring Bazoo the Soul Eater!

Overview

Return strategies tend to play similarly to many other decks, like Chaos Turbo, depending on the chosen shell. What sets them apart is their access to Return from the Different Dimension (RftDD), which allows the pilot to fill the field with any monsters that have previously been banished, often ending the game with one large swing. Bazoo the Soul Eater plays to this end goal. Additionally, it's common for players to use the maximum count for flip monsters like Spy or Dekoichi, since getting hit by an opposing Nobleman of Crossout is sometimes preferable.

NBCrew22's list has some interesting one-of additions, like Dust tornado, which can clear the way for large RftDD swings, or Brain Control, which allows for easier summons on the two Zaborgs.

Player Insight

Looking to shake things up with a more aggressive playstyle, NBCrew22 discussed their desire to push tempo and exploit key interactions, particularly against Chaos Turbo. Drawing inspiration from traditional Warrior decks, they sought a build that would offer more explosiveness while still being able to hold its own against top-tier competition.
I wanted to have fun playing something different. I'm an aggressive player, and this deck allows me to push tempo and take advantage of Crossouts against Turbo through Return.

This deck plays similar to warriors but can be more explosive. I wanted a more aggressive strategy, so it was between Earth Aggro and Warriors until I started testing this list. I designed this deck to be able to go toe-to-toe with Chaos Turbo, and it can out-tempo Warriors and Earth Aggro. I like Returning to lethal out of nowhere, and with solemns to back up big pushes, I feel I can chip away at my opponent until I'm ready to go for game. The main goal is to get your own monster crossed out or cross out your opponent's dekos and spies so yours gets banished for return. I play enough big monsters to create tempo without return. When I do see return, though, it's usually the best card in the deck.

I wanted to main three Kycoo, which was the starting point. Kycoo is the strongest card against Turbo. Then I needed to think about cards to out Spies, which led me to the small ROTA package with exiled, DDWL, and Sasuke, all of which can out spies. Then, I needed cards to support return besides NoC (or getting NoC'd). The small chaos package and Bazoo help facilitate that. Bazoo also gets over spies and most other monsters in the format. Three Dustshoots help you gain hand knowledge, so you know what to play around with before going for your big lethal push. The other noteworthy card is Brain Control. With two Zaborgs, Brain Control can either be a massive tempo swing, lead to a lethal play, or out chaos monsters. Brain is really strong in this deck.

So far, I'm 2-1. I lost R3 in a close match to Chaos Turbo. Brain Control has come in clutch. I was able to lethal with it and another monster in a game I would have otherwise lost. I won game 2 in round 3 because my opponent crossed out my Spy turn 1. Later, he was down to 4600 with an empty field, and I had returned Exiled for exact lethal. Zaborg has also come up multiple times.

This deck is really fun to play. If you do try it, play aggressively and be smart with your resources. Return is a broken card when used properly.
