Peru had its first ever Goat Grand Prix! Check out the top 8 deck lists below, including the super spicey 1st place list! The biggest story from GGP Peru is without a doubt the deck piloted by winner Miguel Salazar: Benkei OTK! Benkei has been a known OTK deck in Goats for as long as the format has existed. Famously, Chad Justice played Ben Kei at the 2005 SJC Houston tournament, making top eight, but it’s not seen much tournament success in the modern era. Playing more equip spells than he did monsters, and a nothing-short-of-insane sideboard, Miguel has rewritten the playbook and redefined what’s possible for the strategy. Congratulations Miguel, and we greatly look forward to seeing what might be next for the fringe strategy.
In second place was Wilson Tafur with a Chaos Control deck. Drawing largely from Chaos Turbo’s core, this deck futures a Goat/Meta package, two Tsukuyomi, two Book of Moon, and of a mainboard Brain Control. Solid cards in a solid configuration lead to solid results, so congrats to Wilson as well! From fourth to sixth place we have two Turbos and two Warriors. Not much to write home about, save for the inclusion of three Solemn Wishes in the sideboard of José Westry. Our 7th and 8th, on the other hand, were packing spice. First, we have a duelist known only as “Martín” bringing a never-before-seen configuration for Dimension Fusion Turbo. Drawing from all kinds of lists both DFT and Chaos Return, this list uses three Bazoo as its banisher while also futuring two Zaborg the Thunder Monarch. Meanwhile, it also features a reload and a Pitch Black Warwolf in the main. What a wild but undeniably powerful build. I wonder where it might go in the future. Finally, there was César Machaca with a unique Goat Control list, the first 41-card-special to top since Puy won PWCQ 38 with her Rescue Cat Burn deck. Not only that, but the sideboard feature some absolutely wild tech as well; from Gravekeeper’s Watch to Electric Snake to Rivalry of the Warlords to Mind Crush. He’s even got Fissure! FISSURE! Just goes to show that it’s one thing to bring good cards, and another thing to play your cards the best you can. Congratulations to all these players on their tops, and on a splendid event!
