All disconnections will result in a game loss (unless they occur during sidedecking). Expected total tournament duration: 15 days Why This Tournament Structure?
We anticipate the demand for this tournament to be extremely high, and thus our goal was to create a tournament structure that would be easy for our staff to run and provide the maximum potential for participation. Because of this, we decided to run a tournament in what is often called a "pool" structure.
The three double elimination tournaments that we ran in the past have all gone exceptionally well in terms of time-to-completion and player satisfaction, so we want to keep doing what's working. However, running this as one double elimination tournament would have the issue of the tournament taking a long time to conclude and providing interested players with only one particular date that they could enter; if they had something else going on that day, they would miss their one and only chance to win their SJC Dark End Dragon. By doing this hybrid pool structure, we feel that we will provide almost every player a chance to enter and win this tournament, regardless of whether they've got a wedding to attend on one particular Saturday or whether they live in America or Europe. Our playoffs are effectively a continuation of these double elimination pools from stage 1, with one difference. It will be run "non-live" (aka "find your opponent"). Although these non-live tournaments tend to have inherent issues associated with them, we believe that these issues will be mitigated based on the fact that this stage of the tournament will only have 8 players, all of which will be highly motivated to find their opponents, as they will have a lot of skin in the game in that they will be very close to winning the big prize. Although this pool structure may seem a bit complicated to those who are not familiar with it, we believe that it will overall offer the best possible experience for the Goat Format player-base. Pick a Saturday or two in August, make sure you've got several hours set aside, and you'll have a chance to win your very own SJC prize card, Dark End Dragon! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us in the comments.
We have good news, bad news, and more good news. The first piece of good news is that our Discord server's GoatBot now has the capability to automatically run tournaments through challonge, saving our staff members time by not having to manually enter results from each round and allowing them to instead use their time entirely on streaming and judging. The bad news is that our July Freeroll isn't going to have prizes quite on par with our last freeroll. The reason for this is simple: We need to test our bot's new tournament-running capabilities to make sure there aren't any bugs. In the case that there are any unforeseen bugs, we'd rather that not happen during a super high-stakes tournament.
The last piece of good news? Our August Freeroll will have prizes so huge, that will be by far the largest prize support for a free tournament in the history of Goat Format Yu-Gi-Oh! (if not Yu-Gi-Oh! as a whole). What prizes are they, you might ask? Can't reveal that just yet. Read on for info about our next two tournaments.

Once a judge has given their ruling, it is considered final. Persistently arguing with the judges or any other kind of unsportsmanlike conduct will result in penalties being awarded, up to disqualification if appropriate. Pro Play Games holds a (current format) tournament series called the "Pro Play Tour." The good news is that now all of their Pro Play Tours will include a Goat Format side event on Sunday. All of the info can be found in the image below. Thanks, Pro Play Games, for helping us grow the Goat Format community.
We always have to make sure that we're doing right by the Goat Format community, which is why we open up our big ideas for feedback before they're implemented. Please read our proposal and give us your thoughts.
During our last survey, the main feedback that we got was that players wanted a free and no-strings-attached way to play in Goat Format tournaments that awarded money to the top finisher. After that, we ran a free $20 tournament as an experiment to see how players would like it. The feedback that we got was quite positive. In fact, there were no complaints about how the tournament was run. In order to be able to grow the Goat Format community while not going broke ourselves, we'd like to alternate each month between a free tournament, followed by one only available to donors via Patreon. There will, however, be alternate ways to qualify for the big Patreon tournament. Read on for more details and the survey. Format Library is bringing back their long running Format Library Championship tournament series. It's a live Goat Format Format tournament, and it's happening this Saturday and 1 PM EST.
