A common point of discussion for Goat Format revolves around its most powerful cards. Namely, "Delinquent Duo", "Graceful Charity", and "Pot of Greed" which are collectively known as "the trinity", but also the premier boss monster "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning". What would the format be like without these defining cards? Well, we had yet another tournament to test this out! The multi-day "No Trinity, No B[L]S" tournament was held over at the Goat Format Europe discord starting in late October and ending in November with 21 total players. In previous No Trinity tournaments, only the 3 power spells were banned, but we decided to spice it up this time and see just how much the game is shaped by the big boss! Below, we will showcase some of the decks featured in the tournament, as well as testimony from the duelists who used them. Riksaah Did you feel that the lack of trinity made the tournament more fun, less fun, or about the same? Hmm without trin it felt like combo/stall were both even stronger than normal which isnt fun to me. Do you think the additional banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament? BLS ban might've pushed even more ppl into those kinds of decks. Did the rules of the tournament affect your deck choice, and if so, why/how? Not really felt like playing control at the time. 7ZZ D490Z (Top 8) Did you feel that the lack of trinity made the tournament more fun, less fun, or about the same? I thought the tournament was more fun. Do you think the additional banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament? BLS being banned is fine. Did the rules of the tournament affect your deck choice, and if so, why/how? The rules did not affect my choice, because I love chaos. Ez2Slayu (Top 8) Did you feel that the lack of trinity made the tournament more fun, less fun, or about the same? More fun. Do you think the additional banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament? No. Did the rules of the tournament affect your deck choice, and if so, why/how? Yes. Warriors finally had their time to shine :) Marou13 (4th Place) Did you feel that the lack of trinity made the tournament more fun, less fun, or about the same? I think the tournament was fun, it was something new and sacking was not an option which is good. Do you think the additional banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament? Banning BLS did not negatively affect the tournament in my opinion. Banning BLS stopped the BLS-Ring combo that is nasty. Did the rules of the tournament affect your deck choice, and if so, why/how? About the deck option I think in this environment burn was a very good option because struggles against bls and does not need trinity that the other deck needs. Any additional thoughts? Generally about the tournament it was something different and fun but maybe burn is too good and many people does not enjoy playing against it. Alephya2 (3rd Place) Did you feel that the lack of trinity made the tournament more fun, less fun, or about the same? Enjoyability was about the same for me. Games were longer balanced but at some point the lack of comeback possibilities was also feelable. Do you think the additional banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament? I don't think so, did fit the tournaments theme. Did the rules of the tournament affect your deck choice, and if so, why/how? Yes. With the lack of natural +1 card like Pot/Duo I did include Dekos and Spies in my Warrior deck bc they are a way to grind out card advantage. Also I did cut TDS bc I expected very little CT decks and more aggro. Bobbybodega (2nd Place) Did you feel that the lack of trinity made the tournament more fun, less fun, or about the same? More or less the same, In my honest opinion it's a bit more skill based bc of the reduced "luck factor" when it comes to top deck trinity/bls. Do you think the additional banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament? I Honestly don't think the banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament, aside from the nostalgia, I think the format can survive w/o BLS. Did the rules of the tournament affect your deck choice, and if so, why/how? Nope, I love warriors and I think the deck can adapt to any format alterations. Any additional thoughts? I'd like to see this tourney ran a few times throughout the season and have stats to see the contrasts between deck/card choices Danicasi (1st Place) Did you feel that the lack of trinity made the tournament more fun, less fun, or about the same? Honestly I think lack of trinity made tournament a little bit fun because without trinity there is more skill involved in my opinion. Do you think the additional banning of BLS negatively impacted the tournament? Bls is too strong so the banned of him is correct for me. Did the rules of the tournament affect your deck choice, and if so, why/how? I play panda burn in this tournament because the trinity is not too important in a deck like that
